Who on earth is Malcolm Woody and what is his story? Who on earth is Malcolm Woody and what is his story?

Hello, my name, as you might have guessed is Malcolm Woody.  I am the husband of the talented and beautiful Robin Woody and dad to Jake, Robbie, Andy and Simon.  Those latter four can fill up my day with all manner of pursuits.  I do get to spend some time with Robin - most people call it sleep!

I manage a furniture store for one of the nations largest publicly traded retailers.  In nearly 15 years of work and four different states, I have learned much, been challenged even more and afforded the chance to impact many lives.  However I believe I have been impacted more in the act.

Several years ago I began writing after my oldest son, Jake, told me at a very tender and young age that I should write a book.  So, I did.  That first one took well over a year and the next one about eight months.  They have garnered around 50 rejections, so I read James 1:2 a lot.  I'm still trying to find the "pure joy" that James calls this perseverance, but I await the transformation of being "mature" and "complete" - the result of all the perseverance.   I have started three other fiction projects to date and enjoy fictional writing most of all.

I also write a bimonthly article for Stages Mississippi, a statewide (and beyond) magazine under the title of "As For Me and My House..."  I have also written a devotion on Mark for the Baptist Record, which has circulation of 90,000 folks weekly.  Both of these opportunities and the feedback from them have given me the confidence to move forward as a writer.  No longer do I fret over my inexperience - I realize an editor can fix things, but not everyone can sit down and churn out a compelling piece of work.

Our family goes to church at Broadmoor Baptist in Madison, MS.  We've moved a lot and I have never met a church like it.  The four walls crumble daily and this church lives to serve.  I have been involved with the Jackson Street Ministry since 2006.  Our outreach to the homeless has been one of the most rewarding ministry endeavors of my life.  Every week is a new adventure.  I invite you to visit the JSM tab on this site and read of what God has done and is doing.

I would like to thank several people who are responsible for me not giving up on writing.  Shannon Clark of Jebaire Publishing was and is a great source of encouragement.  Russell McKinney who told me to go for it and can mark up a piece of work with a red pen as no one I've ever met.  Thanks also, to Joe Gatuso of Wild Olive Press, who brought me down to earth and helped me see that our best is what Christ wants.  I'm thankful for my family, my life group, the equipping classes and countless other folks who have just dropped an encouraging word here or there.  Oh, and my pastor - Rob Futral.  I have saved his comment in an email that simplly said "keep writing".  Okay, I will.
